An amazing CV for this guy who worked as a freelance illustrator for the record industry (including work for A&M, Geffen, Dionysus, and Warner Bros), as well as head color designer, animator, head of new technology, production designer or art director for program such as The Simpsons or Spongebob…

Francis Baudevin se sert, dans sa peinture, de ce qui constitue la trame de notre environnement visuel le plus immédiat; il peint sur de la toile, ou au mur, en les agrandissant à peu près dix fois, des lay-out d’emballages de produits industriels de consommation courante (avec une prédilection pour les pharmaceutiques et les pâtissiers). Il ne conserve de l’image originale que sa structure formelle, tout élément textuel disparaît. Si les compositions qui en résultent entretiennent, bien sûr, un fort rapport de connivence avec la peinture abstraite la plus géométrique, c’est pourtant bien de figuration qu’il s’agit ; il portraiture en quelque sorte des conditionnements’ ; et ce mot doit s’entendre sous toutes ses acceptions :emboîtage tout autant que réglage des comportements. Francis Baudevin renvoie, avec beaucoup d’ironie,la peinture abstraite à toute la fatalité de son devenir décoratif / marchand ; il anticipe et retourne à son profit le processus de la récupération pour mieux le tourner en dérision.

BLACK RIVER FESTIVAL

Le festival BLACK RIVER a commencé ce 22 Octobre en Autriche, à Vienne et expose le travail de plusieurs artistes incluant KNOW HOPE, MARK JENKINS ou encore AAKASH NIHALANI (dont nous avions déjà parlé dans ce précédent post). On apprend aussi que le festival tient son nom du Danube : pas à cause de la qualité de l’eau, non, non, mais bien à cause de l’origine du 2nd plus long fleuve d’Europe. Il prend sa source en Forêt Noire et se jette dans la Mer….Noire).
